VICTOR MENDIOLA GALVAN

Nace en 1969 en la Ciudad de México. Realiza sus Estudios en la Escuela Activa de Fotografía.

Desde 1989 ha fotografiado para diversos medios: agencia Cuartoscuro, revista Macrópolis, periódico La Jornada. Ha sido editor de fotografía en la revista El Laberinto Urbano y co-editor del Periódico Milenio Diario.

En dos ocasiones ha recibido la beca del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes para jóvenes creadores: en 1992 para la realización del proyecto “LOS BAJOS GOLPES”, ensayo fotográfico sobre el ambiente del box en México, y en 1999 para la realización del ensayo “DE PASO”, documentación de la vida cotidiana en diversas ciudades de México.

Ha expuesto su trabajo individualmente en México y Estados Unidos y particiado en más de 20 exposiciones colectivas en México y el extranjero.

En 2005, dentro del programa de intercambio de residencias artísticas del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, realiza proyecto sobre boxeadores en Colombia.

Ha sido fotógrafo de diversas campañas publicitarias para NIDO, BANAMEX, TELCEL, entre las que destaca DHL 25 aniversario en México, premiada en 2005 en Cannes, Círculo Creativo México y FIAP.

Desde el año 2000 es fotógrafo independiente, y socio fundador de Via 69 y colabora en proyectos de diversa índole: publicitarios, editoriales, periodísticos, documentales y fotografía fija para cine.

From 1988 to 1990, he studied in the Escuela Activa de Fotografía (Active School of Photography).

Since 1989, he has been collaborating for different media: Cuartoscuro agency, Macrópolis magazine, La Jornada newspaper. He has been photo editor for El Laberinto Urbano magazine and co-editor for the Milenio Diario newspaper.

The Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (National Fund for the Culture and the Arts) has twice awarded him with the Jóvenes Creadores (Young Creators) grant: in 1992, for the project LOS BAJOS GOLPES, a photographic essay about the boxing environment in México; and in 1999, for the essay DE PASO, a documentary about daily life in various Mexican cities.

He has had individual exhibits with the series EL QUE NO BRINQUE…, based on slam-dancing, and exhibits in Mexico and The United States with the boxing series (San Antonio 2000, Chicago 2005). He has also participated in more than 20 collective exhibits in Mexico and abroad.

In 2002, he was in charge of the photographic selection and edition for INFANCIA, a book published that same year by the Consejo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (National Council for the Culture and the Arts).

He was twice awarded with the Vida Cotidiana (Daily Life) prize, in the first and second editions of the Photojournalism Biennial (1995 and 1997). In 1996, El Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Contemporary Art Museum) from Oaxaca awarded him with the Sotero Constantino Jiménez prize.

In 2004, the Ministry of Culture from Mexico City granted him the Artes por todas Partes (Arts All Over) award, which allowed him to have his work in a series of public places. That same year, he received a grant from the Artistic Exchange Program from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes to develop a boxing project in Colombia.

He has been the photographer for many advertising campaigns, amongst which is the 25th anniversary of DHL Mexico, awarded in 2005 with the Grand Prix in San Sebastian, the Gold and Silver Lion in Cannes, the Círculo Creativo México, the silver medal in the FIAP (Iberoamerican Publicity Festival), the gold medal in EFFIE (from the American Marketing Association), and the Ojo de Iberoamérica.

Since the year 2000, he has worked in Via 69 as an associate and founder and has collaborated as a free-lance photographer in different projects: advertising, editorial, journalistic, documentary and still photography for the film industry.
